Frequently asked questions

How do I find out what Vitality status I am?
Log on to the Member Zone at www.pruhealth.co.uk or www.pruprotect.co.uk

What happens if I suspend due to illness or travel? What do you need from me to prove this?
Generally we don’t let members suspend their membership. In a very few cases of long-term illness or postings abroad for work, an exception may be made, but verification from your doctor or employer respectively would be required.

Will you still monitor me at the gym?
Yes, we will monitor visitor data provided to us from the gyms in order to allocate Vitality points.

From November onwards, will anything happen to my gym membership if I don’t use it?
No, there will be no usage condition put in place for your gym membership to remain active.

What are the cancellation terms for my PruHealth PMI policy?
You can cancel your PruHealth policy at any time by giving us 30 days notice. This is our standard process. You won't be able to access our partner gyms as your gym membership will be stopped. You will also miss out on some great new reward partners joining us in August.

What are the cancellation terms for my PruProtect policy?
You can cancel your PruProtect policy at any time by giving us 30 days notice. This is our standard process. You won’t be able to access our partner gyms as your membership will be stopped. You will also miss out on some great new reward partners joining us in August.

What are the cancellation terms for my gym membership?
Please refer to the Terms and Conditions provided to you when you joined the gym. These can also be found on our Member Zone on the Gym Activation Form.

Why are my friends getting it free of charge and I can't? What happens next year, if I stay with PruHealth?
As of 1 November 2008 gym membership fees for ALL members will depend on what Vitality status level they are on. (Remember that gym memberships are billed in arrears, so this will first affect the amount you will be billed in December).

Why is my club more expensive with you than direct with the gym?
There are a number of clubs where the retail rate is below the Bronze rate, and a very few clubs (3) where the retail rate is below the Silver rate. This is because these clubs have a higher capacity to accept new memberships and so their retail prices are set lower than other clubs in their network. If you don’t think you will achieve one of the higher Vitality statuses then it may be cheaper for you to take out a membership in one of these clubs directly with the gym chain. But of course you won’t get Vitality points as you have not joined through PruHealth.

When will the prices change?
The first gym bill under the new arrangement will be sent out in December, in respect of November gym membership.

Does that mean that using the gym gets me cheaper premiums next year?
You will earn 10 Vitality points for every visit to the gym (1 per day, maximum 15 per month). You can also earn Vitality points through other activities and the more points you earn the higher your Vitality status. Your premiums could be lower on renewal depending on what Vitality status you are on and whether you make any claims. Your gym membership will get progressively cheaper if you improve your status but once on platinum level it won’t get any cheaper and could increase with inflation etc.

If I only go to the gym on the Vitality programme how long will it be before I can get to Platinum level and pay the least amount of money for my gym membership?
You can still get discounted gym membership, but from November onwards it will be dependent on your Vitality status rather than how much you go to the gym. So, the higher your status, the cheaper your gym membership will be. You won’t be able to get the biggest discount on gym membership by solely going to the gym though, you’ll need to factor in a few extra things which you probably do already.

For example:
Going to the gym 3 times a week*
Having a fitness assessment while you are there*
Logging onto our member zone and completing the health review
If you don’t smoke, complete our no-smoking declaration
Buying your fresh fruit and veg at Sainsburys (£10 a week)*

*Normal category and spend limits apply, only 1 fitness assessment per 6 mths, 1 x gym workout per day with a max of 15 per month, and max £20 Sainsbury’s spend per week per individual. Vitality points through Sainsbury’s are only available to PruHealth members.

Why are you making this change?
We are aligning our gym model with the rest of our new and existing Vitality programme. We feel the changes simplify the overall offering for our members and for brokers, and continue to represent excellent value for members who attend the gym on a regular basis and build up their Vitality points as we are incentivising behavioural change.

The new pricing means members will need to engage with all areas of Vitality to get their gym premiums down to the lowest possible level, rather than getting the best deal from gym usage alone – in this way you’ll become truly engaged in the Vitality model and healthier as a result. In conjunction with our other rewards, we expect this to encourage people to change their behaviour.
